CONtract Solutions for Effective and lasting delivery of agri-environmental-climate public goods by EU Estimating WATer efficiency in soil using SATellite images and modeling approach
The WATSAT project aims to develop a Decision Support System which helps to estimate volumetric water content in soil through satellite images, climate, soil and crop management variables for Olive groves. This tool will facilitate a sustainable and more efficient water management.
The project will help to reduce the gap in the water cycle by reducing water consumption on irrigated lands, tailoring the supply adapted to the actual demand. A SnowBall sampling design was applied in order to obtain the needs and demands of the potential final users. The trans-disciplinary approach will ensure that stakeholders from water and agricultural sectors at the field scale, as well as, at the territory scale, are integrated within the entire innovation process.
Accordingly, it can be predicted at agricultural plot (parcel) level an irrigation calendar and sustainability indicators. The methodology has been applied in commercial plots in Andalusia following key variables to upscale the services.
